Kingstowne Trash Pickup Policies



Waste and recycling services are provided to all townhome and single family home owners in Kingstowne.

Will I be provided with trash and recycling bins?

Optional additional containers (trash and recycling bins) can be rented through AAA for $1 per month billed annually to the resident ($12).  The bins available for rent are wheeled, have covers, and are available in large sizes.

Do I need to call AAA and set up an account?

No.  The only reason to call AAA is if you'd like to rent the larger bins. 

Will I be charged for trash service?

No.  Trash service is included in your monthly assessment fees.

What is considered regular household trash?

Everyday generated trash is household trash.  For example, kitchen and bathroom trash is everyday generated trash.

What are my collection times?

Tuesdays & Fridays
Waste collection service is provided from 7:00am - 6:00pm on collection days.

AAA Republic provides trash service on every holiday except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years day.

All trash receptacles are required to be removed from the street, walkway, or exterior portion of your home following pickup on the day of your scheduled trash pick-up. Your trash receptacle may be put out for pick-up no earlier than the evening before the day of the scheduled removal.

What is the collection day for yard debris and what items are not acceptable for pick-up?

Yard debris collection takes place on Wednesdays in all villages within Kingstowne.  From January 15th through February 28, yard debris will be collected with regular waste pick-up.
Grass and yard debris should be cut in small pieces and bagged in heavy duty bags.  Bags should be in a trash can or at the curb by 7:00am.  The weight limit for trash cans and bags is 35lbs.  Branches can be no greater than 3 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet.  The branches must be tied in small bundles.  NO SOD, DIRT, MULCH OR ROCKS WILL BE TAKEN.

How do I contain my trash and recyclables?

Trash should be kept only in covered, rigid metal or plastic containers manufactured specifically for trash purposes, or in tightly closed heavy-duty trash bags manufactured specifically for exterior use.

When are recyclables collected and what items are recyclable?

Recyclables are collected on Mondays in the North Village and Tuesdays in the South and Middle Villages and should be curbside by 7:00am the morning of your collection day.
Paper items and products, plastic bottles and jugs of any color,glass food and beverage containers, metal food and beverage containers and cardboard 3x3 feet or smaller.  For more information on recycling services and a list of AAA Republic approved recyclable items please click here

How do I dispose of furniture, appliances or construction material?

Please call AAA Republic at (703) 818-8222 at least 24 hours in advance for pricing and to schedule a special pick-up.

What do you consider unacceptable curbside items?

Unacceptable curbside items include acids, fire extinguishers, ammunition, antifreeze, asbestos, automobile parts, cinder blocks, concrete, TV's, computer monitors, car batteries, chemicals, dead animals, motor oil, mulch, paint, pesticides, poisons, propane or helium tanks, sod, tires, tree stumps, dirt, rocks and stones.

How do I dispose of the unacceptable items?

Each homeowner must make individual arrangements to dispose of these materials.  There are two Fairfax County landfill sites that accept these products - Lorton (703) 690-1703 and West Ox Road (703) 631-1179.

Do you pick up moving boxes and if so, how many can I put out for collection?

Yes.  For recycling purposes, they must be flattened and cut down to 3 feet by 3 feet.  We will take approximately 75 boxes per recycling collection pick-up.

How do I dispose of syringes/needles?

It is imperative that proper steps are taken when disposing of syringes/needles.  To ensure the safety of the trash crews, please dispose of any syringes/needles one of the following ways:

1.  Return them to either the physician or hospital in which they were received.
2.  Place them in a thick, hard plastic bottle (i.e. a detergent bottle) with a secured lid.

SYRINGES/NEEDLES OR ANY OTHER SHARP OBJECT SHOULD NEVER BE DIPOSED OF IN JUST A PLASTIC OR PAPER BAG.

How do I get a replacement cart/bin?

Please call AAA Replublic at (703) 818-8222 and speak with a customer service representative to schedule a date when crews will be in your area doing repairs/replacements of equipment.

What do I do when my bin or trash cart or recycling cart goes missing?

If your cart goes missing, check around with your neighbors to see if they accidentally took your cart.  If you are unable to locate your cart, please call AAA Replublic at (703) 818-8222.

Am I able to use my 64 gallon recycling cart for trash?

No.  The recycling cart is strictly for single stream recycling (no sorting necessary).  No trash or yard debris material can be placed in this special recycling cart.

Additional Important Information:-  AAA is also known as Republic.  It is possible the trucks that come through our community will only have the Republic logo, so to not confuse folks we might want to emphasize the duel name. 
-  White metal materials (refrigerators, stoves, etc.) will be picked up separately on Wednesdays - please  schedule ahead.
